Aluminium windows in Berwick & Casey.
Powder-coated aluminium — sliding, awning, double-hung, casement, fixed. The default Berwick window for nine out of ten replacement jobs. Slim sightlines, AS 2047 compliant, low maintenance, 7–10 year warranty.
The five aluminium window brands we install.
- Trend (AUS): Big residential range, very strong sliding and stacker products, deep stack of factory colour options. Frame warranty 7 years, IGU 10 years. ~$450–$1,100/window installed.
- Stegbar (AUS): National brand with good sliding and double-hung profiles, solid mid-market value. Frame warranty 10 years. ~$500–$1,150/window.
- AWS (Architectural Window Systems): Higher-end, thermally broken frames available, premium sliding-door range. Frame warranty 10 years. ~$650–$1,400/window.
- Wideline (AUS): Good awning and casement range, mid-market price. ~$450–$1,000/window.
- Capral (AUS): The aluminium extrusion supplier behind several local fabricators — quality is the extrusion section, finish and warranty depend on the local fabricator. ~$400–$950/window.
Window styles — what goes where.
- Sliding: Bedrooms, living rooms, anywhere the wall has room to slide a panel sideways. Standard Berwick default.
- Awning: Top-hinged, outward open. Kitchens (over the sink), bathrooms, laundries. Can be left open in light rain.
- Double-hung: Vertical sliding sash — the traditional Australian window. Looks great on Edwardian and Federation-style new builds. Slightly higher price.
- Casement: Side-hinged outward open. Best ventilation for any given opening size. Good for narrow tall openings.
- Fixed (picture): No operable sash — pure glass. Stairwell wall windows, lounge feature panes.
- Louvre: Stacked horizontal glass slats. Wet areas, classic Queenslander-style ventilation.
Why aluminium dominates Berwick replacements.
About 90% of our Berwick jobs end up with aluminium frames. Three reasons:
- Like-for-like. The original windows were aluminium — matching the material keeps the architrave details, sill heights and proportions consistent with the rest of the house.
- Price. Aluminium is the lowest cost-per-window of any properly-rated frame material. A timber equivalent costs 60–100% more.
- Maintenance. Modern powder-coated aluminium doesn’t fade, doesn’t rust (in residential exposure), doesn’t need repainting. Hose-clean every few years and that’s it.
Thermally broken frames for the premium spec.
Standard aluminium frames are a thermal bridge — they conduct cold through from outside to inside. A thermally broken frame inserts a polyurethane bridge between the inner and outer aluminium sections, breaking that path. Combined with double-glazing the frame is roughly as thermally efficient as a uPVC or timber frame at much lower cost. Premium upgrade of $250–$400 per window over standard aluminium — worth it for living rooms and bedrooms, less critical for laundries and toilets.
AS 2047 compliance & warranty.
Every aluminium window we install ships AS 2047 stamped — that’s the Australian Standard covering structural wind load, water tightness, glass safety (per AS 1288) and operating force. Frame warranty is typically 7–10 years; IGU (insulated glass unit) seal warranty on double-glazed units is 10–20 years depending on the manufacturer. We register the warranty in your name at handover.
