2m to 6m openings

Sliding doors in Berwick & Casey.

Standard 2-panel sliders, 3-panel stackers, 4-panel and custom configurations up to 6m wide. The default indoor-outdoor opening for Casey homes — slim sightlines, weather-tight, and the easiest big door to live with day-to-day.

Sliding door configurations & price bands.

  • 2-panel slider, 2.4m: One fixed, one slides. $2,500–$4,000 installed. The standard 90s–2000s rear door.
  • 2-panel slider, 3.0m: $3,000–$4,500 installed.
  • 3-panel stacker, 3.6m: One fixed, two slide (stack behind each other). $4,500–$6,500 installed.
  • 3-panel stacker, 4.2m: $5,500–$7,500 installed.
  • 4-panel stacker, 4.8m: Two fixed centre, two slide outward. $6,500–$9,000 installed.
  • Custom configurations, 5m–6m: From $8,000. Multi-panel, corner-meet (two doors meeting at 90° with no corner post), pocket-slide (panels disappear into the wall cavity).

Add 25–40% for double-glazing across all configurations. Thermally broken frames add 15–30%.

Standard slider vs stacker explained.

Standard 2-panel slider: One panel fixed in the frame, one panel slides along the track. You can open half the total width. Cheapest, simplest, most weather-tight because there’s only one moving seal.

3-panel stacker: One fixed, two slide. When fully open the two sliding panels stack one behind the other behind the fixed panel — so you get roughly two-thirds of the total width as clear opening. The standard upgrade from a 2.4m to 3.6m opening.

4-panel stacker: Two fixed in the centre, two slide outward to each side. Half the total width opens, but you get a clean unobstructed view through the middle pair when closed (no central mullion).

Why owners upgrade from 2.4m to 3.6m.

The standard builder-spec 2.4m rear sliding door from a 90s–2000s Casey build looks narrow by current standards and gives a poor indoor-outdoor connection. Upgrading to a 3.6m or 4.2m stacker is the single biggest lifestyle improvement on a typical Berwick or Cranbourne East home. It requires removing brickwork on each side of the existing opening, installing a steel lintel to carry the load above the new wider span, and patching the brick course around the new frame. All-in budget for the opening modification plus a new 3.6m stacker: $5,000–$8,000.

Seals, rollers, hardware.

  • Tandem stainless rollers: Adjustable from factory, rated for the panel weight (60–120kg per panel on big stackers).
  • Wool pile and bulb perimeter seals: Replaced every install, no chance of an old hardened seal compromising the new door.
  • Lock sets: Whitco or Doric standard, Lockwood Vista premium.
  • Track: Marine-grade stainless on the bottom track for any direct-rain exposure.
